Short Biography

Kevin Peterson is a founder and director of the New Democracy Coalition which focuses on the issues of civic literacy, civic policy and electoral justice. He is a democracy activist who realizes the connection between addressing racial division as a precondition toward strengthening our democracy on the local and national level. He is an organizer, writer and public speaker.  He enjoys talking to youth about civic engagement. He delights in his children, Nigel, Marcus and Farrell, and the regular consumption of the delicacies transmitted by his parents, including sweet potato pie, and oxtail soup. The Newport Jazz Festival, West Africa and the Smithsonian National Museum of Black History and Culture in Washington D.C.
